At Outdoor Ed we live and work with the natural world. Based amongst the trees we spend our days learning how to live the wild-life. We cover areas from bushcraft and survival skills to open sea swimming, from expedition skills to group management, from first aid to ropework and from nature photography to fly fishing (for a complete list of activities see below).

Outdoor instructor training (Introduction and development in a range of outdoor pursuits areas including: Rope-work and climbing, surfing and lifeguard skills, navigation and expedition skills. Group management and emergency care skills, Coaching and teaching skills).
Expedition skills (Map and compass skills including micro navigation, Route planning and personal administration in the outdoors, Taking on a range of outdoor expeditions over different terrain, Emergency management, Camp-craft and outdoor cooking).
Surf-sports (Surfing and bodyboarding skills, Lifeguard skills, Open water swimming, Beach safety and first aid, Emergency management in the outdoors).
Survival skills (Knife and tool use, Fire lighting and management skills, Knots and temporary shelter construction, Water purification, Foraging and trapping, Managing stress responses, Signalling for help).
Bushcraft and permaculture (Tool use, including axes, Advanced fire skills, Woodland crafts and Outdoor cooking, Species identification, Building outdoor spaces, Managing woodland, including coping and felling small trees).
Green woodworking skills (Safe use of a range of carpentry tools, including axe use for shaping wood, Using lathes and traditional woodcraft equipment in creation of a range of green woodworking crafts, Identifying and using a range of different timber).
Archery and target sports (Shooting skills and archery coaching, Range management including building ranges and range equipment, Archery instructor skills, Making bows and arrows using a range of techniques).
Forest School leadership training (Forest School activities and crafts, tool use, Shelter construction, Group management, Risk management in the outdoors, Flora and fauna identification, Understanding learning and development and play theory).
Traditional woodland skills (Charcoal making, metal forging and blacksmith skills, stone and straw bale building, hedge laying, Coppicing and coppice crafts, Clay oven construction, Tool making, Willow weaving).
Fishing (Course, fly and sea fishing at a range of locations, Fishing technique, Understanding water safety and fishing etiquette, Creating lures and equipment, Shelter construction, Preparing and cooking fish).
Rope-work and tree climbing skills (Introduction to knots and rope work needed for tree climbing, Climbing technique, Advanced climbing techniques, Arial rescue technique).
Traditional crafts (Making natural paints, Bead making, Willow weaving, Whittling using knives and small tools, Woodland arts, Egg painting, Gypsy crafts, Clay work, Story telling, Campfire cooking).
Photography and videography (Woodland and coastal walks, Using a range of cameras to create a portfolio of images and/or video, Lighting considerations, Sound and recording techniques, Gallery visits).
Available Qualifications
In-house qualifications: Tool use level 1-4, Fire lighting level 1-4, Navigation Intro-advanced, Rope-work Intro-advanced, First Aid.
Nationally Accredited qualifications: Level 1 Award in Forest School Ethos and Principles (for young people aged 14 and up, additional cost for registration).
